Everyday Assistance

Support from a Lidder Care home carer that boosts your independence and confidence.

Our support can make a world of difference, with special attention to only helping with the aspects you want by adapting to your changing needs. All of our carers and companions are thoroughly vetted and reference checked, are aligned with your hobbies and interests and have undergone comprehensive training courses to gain the skills needed to fully support you at home.

What is companionship care?

Enjoy the support of a trusted companion to boost your confidence and independence.

Sometimes care and support isn’t about a complex medical need or essential personal care tasks, but rather living the life that you want, doing the things you love and feeling as human as possible.

Companionship care is a type of home care service designed for individuals who may be at risk of loneliness or who have been experiencing loneliness for some time. A caregiver will visit your loved one’s home and spend time with them, providing company and emotional support.

Your companion can help with:

General companionship Your companion is there to be a friendly face and provide fun, supportive companionship throughout the week

Cooking your favourite meals A companion can prepare your favourite meals for you at the times that you decide, sitting with you and sharing the meal when wanted

Help with your weekly shopping If you’re finding you need a bit of extra assistance with the shopping, a companion can either collect it for you or accompany you to the shops

Helping with travel arrangements Travelling long distances can seem a daunting prospect, but your companion can help you plan your journey – as well as accompanying you

Assistance with domestic tasks As well as providing friendly companionship, your carer can also help out around the home with domestic tasks such as cleaning and laundry

Ensuring your comfort at home Whether they’re plumping your pillows, adjusting the heating or tidying things up, your companion can help ensure you feel comfortable and relaxed

Customer stories

Find out how we’re helping people to be more independent and confident at home.

Every Lidder Care customer has a special story. Here are some of our favourite examples of how our support is making a difference to people’s lives:

  • "A clean and up to date environment, always very welcoming, someone always available if we need to talk. Both my mother-in-law and father-in-law live in Newgate Lodge. My mother-in-law is upstairs and my father-in-law is downstairs. Both have their needs met really well and the staff have genuine care and respect for them both."

    Pamela C Daughter-in-law of Resident
  • "My grandma has been at Newgate Lodge for a few years. It does not feel like a care home. It feels like Grandma's home. The staff love and care for the residents and do everything they can to make their stay as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. The residents are treated with dignity and care each and every day. The relatives are also made very welcome and we feel part of the family. I would have no hesitation in recommending Newgate Lodge Care Home."

    Sarah E Granddaughter of Resident
  • "My husband and I have visited a resident since she arrived and have been very impressed by the care and support, she and other residents' receive. Although she is deaf and cannot speak she is never ignored and is included in things that can be difficult in her case. Residents seem relaxed and well cared for. It's like a big happy caring family. We have visited other care homes and this is certainly the best."

    Joan J Friend of Resident
  • "My brother is very happy to live here. He is well cared for and gets on well with everyone including the staff. I find all the staff very caring and always willing to help. All the staff are always pleasant when I visit. Myself being a carer for 28 years I would highly recommend this care home to anyone needing care."

    Teresa S Sister of Resident
  • "We required urgent care for my father in law. I went to look around. The home was clean and beautifully presented. The member of staff who took all the details was kind, professional and understanding. My father in law arrived the following day. A carer immediately advised that the dementia unit would not be appropriate so he lives downstairs and only sleeps upstairs in the dementia unit. The home manager is excellent and supportive of the difficulties between my husband and his brother. We can visit when we wish. There has been a marked improvement in improvement in both my father in law's physical and mental health."

What is the difference between a companion and a caregiver?

Whilst all of our carers are expertly trained to provide a wide range of support services to people with varying requirements, companionship care is a bit different from regular care.

With companionship care, rather than the focus being on supporting your practical needs, you’ll instead have a trusted companion who will be there to help you remain socially engaged in your own home – as well as accompanying you out and about to see friends and family or visit your favourite places.

Companionship care helps you to continue maintaining a happy, independent and stimulating lifestyle.
