Mansfield MP Joins The King’s Trust For An Afternoon of Activities at Newgate Lodge Care Home
Last week was an exciting one at Newgate Lodge Care Home, as we proudly welcomed Mansfield MP Steve Yemm and young people from The King’s Trust for a special visit to the home. It was a brilliant opportunity to showcase the vibrant community spirit at our home, being able to welcome prominent figures within the community to our home.
Welcoming Steve Yemm MP
Mansfield MP, Steve Yemm visited us during a buoyant day at Newgate Lodge Care Home, as we were also joined by members of The King’s Trust, whose group of enthusiastic young people led an afternoon of fantastic activities for our residents.
From ball games to beanbag target shooting, the session was full of fun, movement and engagement – and our residents loved every moment of it. All of this took place in the comfort of our beautiful, landscaped gardens at Newgate Lodge, where residents relaxed and enjoyed the sunshine and warm spring weather.
It was great to introduce members of our care team and our activities team to Steve, who was also able to observe first-hand the passion and dedication that goes into the delivering of tailored, meaningful activities. He also had the chance to speak with our residents, gaining insight into the positive impact our team’s work has on their daily lives and learning more about their experiences and life at Newgate Lodge.

At Lidder Care, we take pride in building strong community links and regularly hosting inclusive, community-focused and led events such as our ever-growing, monthly Newgate Community Café and the inaugural Newgate Quiz Night.
By encouraging regular interaction with members of the wider community, these events help our residents remain valued members of society, with a continued sense of purpose, inclusion, and belonging. They also allow Lidder Care to give back to the local area by providing a welcoming, inclusive space where people can come together – something we’re truly passionate about.
A Fun-Filled Afternoon With The King’s Trust
Coinciding with the MP’s visit, we had the pleasure of welcoming The King’s Trust, who brought along around 20 young people to spend the afternoon with our residents.

The group delivered a fantastic range of engaging activities, including fun sports sessions and interactive games. It was a heartwarming afternoon filled with laughter, friendly competition and intergenerational bonding. These sessions not only provided entertainment but also promoted movement, confidence, conversation and a feeling of community and belonging amongst our residents and the young people from The King’s Trust.

We’re incredibly proud to work with The King’s Trust, a charity founded by King Charles III (formerly Prince of Wales), which supports young people aged 11 to 30 as they build confidence, develop new skills and take steps towards employment, education or training. Through community projects like their work with Newgate Lodge Care Home, these young people can gain valuable experience and independence whilst making a real difference.
These intergenerational sessions also allow our residents to connect with younger generations, share their own stories and wisdom whilst enjoying the uplifting, meaningful interactions that brighten their day.
