The Different Types of Home Care Services & Support Explained
Choosing home care for yourself or a family member is easier when you understand what is actually available. I founded Lowmoor Nursing Home and Newgate Lodge Care Home here in Mansfield after years working as a Consultant Psychiatrist within the NHS’s Mental Health Services for Older People, and the same standards apply to the home care team, whether we are visiting for an hour a day or providing round-the-clock live-in support.
Understanding Home Care Options
Choosing the right type of care is an important decision that can significantly impact quality of life. Our range of services can be tailored to create a care package that matches your needs, whether that is a few hours of help a week or continuous support, and the package can change as circumstances change.
Our Home Care Services
Live-in Care
When continuous support is needed, our live-in care service provides around-the-clock assistance while you stay in your own home. Your carer becomes a familiar, trusted presence rather than a rotating shift pattern of strangers.
- One dedicated carer living in your home rather than a rotating team
- Support available at any hour, including through the night
- Suited to complex or progressing needs, including advanced dementia
- Meals, medication and personal care handled by someone who already knows your routine

Visiting Care
For support that does not need to be continuous, visiting care covers everything from a single daily check-in to several visits a week, built around your existing routine.
- Visits arranged from once a day to several times a week
- Fixed carer or small consistent team, not a different face each time
- Visit length matched to what is needed, from a short check-in to a longer session
- Easy to increase or reduce visits as needs change

Respite Care
If you are the regular carer for a family member and need planned time off, or emergency cover at short notice, our respite carers step in so care continues without a gap.
- Planned respite for holidays, hospital stays or a scheduled break
- Emergency respite available at short notice
- Continuity maintained through the same care standards and, where possible, familiar carers
- Can run alongside our care home respite option if a short stay away from home is preferred
