Newgate Lodge and Lowmoor Nursing Home Welcome Dementia Bus During Dementia Action Week 2026
Newgate Lodge Care Home and Lowmoor Nursing Home welcomed residents, families, staff and members of the local community to take part in an immersive dementia awareness experience during Dementia Action Week 2026.
Newgate Lodge hosted the Virtual Dementia Tour on Monday 18th May, while Lowmoor welcomed the experience on Tuesday 19th May.
Operated by Training2Care, the Virtual Dementia Tour offers an insight into the lives of people living with dementia through sensory alterations affecting hearing, sight, touch and mobility. Carers, clients and relatives using Lidder Care’s home care service, along with members of the wider care community, were also invited to take part.
Lee Swinn, Home Manager at Newgate Lodge Care Home, said: “Welcoming the Dementia Bus was a fantastic opportunity for our team and the wider community to better understand the daily challenges faced by people living with dementia. Experiences like this build empathy, improve care practices and strengthen skills and knowledge.”
Chris Morrisson, Home Manager at Lowmoor Nursing Home, added: “The Virtual Dementia Tour has helped our team, families and the community gain a deeper knowledge of dementia and the importance of patience, compassion and understanding when supporting those living with the condition.”
Dementia Action Week, which ran from 18th to 24th May, is an annual campaign led by Alzheimer’s Society to raise awareness, encourage action and improve support for people living with dementia.
