Celebrating this special day at our Nottinghamshire Nursing Homes

On Sunday 19th March 2023, here at Lidder Care we invite friends and family to visit and celebrate the day with their loved ones. Mothering Sunday is an important day for the whole family, a chance to get together and celebrate all the women in your life.

If your mother resides with us, you will have one of two options; she may be able to leave the home for an outing or her health may prevent her from leaving. No matter what the situation, there are a myriad of special activities you can share with her.

If you are taking your mother out of the home to spend time with her, keep her interests in mind. Some mothers would cherish a walk in the park and/or a picnic. Try not to pack too much into the day, as most elderly residents tire easily. Keep it simple, as for mothers who live in a care home, the place they might want to go most is the familiar setting of a family member’s home. Having a meal at a family member’s house might be the best present she could ask for.

Why not check out some Nottingham sights and National Trust locations, visit a museum or explore the shops after lunch? Our staff are always happy to help arrange any visits or day’s out for our residents and their families, especially when it makes a special day even more memorable.

Mother’s Day Gifts for Nursing Home Residents

Mother’s day gifts can be difficult to think about, especially when your loved one is in a care home, but bringing a smile to their face is as easy as bringing a bunch of their favourite flowers, or a favourite flowered plant and a handwritten card. Vibrant flowers can be a healthy gift for those living with Alzheimer’s as the bright colours, shapes and scents stimulate the senses.

Why not organise their favourite treat? Whether it’s a box of chocolates or a homemade cake, at Lidder Care our carers are happy to help with this to bring happiness and love to their Mother’s Day.

Familiarity is especially good for nursing home residents, their favourite flowers or their favourite sweet treat can help to lift spirits and bring a loving, homely feel to the nursing home.

Those living with Alzheimer’s and dementia are often drawn to puzzles; invest in one with larger pieces to avoid frustration. You could even personalise a puzzle by adding images of grandchildren and different family members. If you have noticed that your mum particularly struggles with remembering family names or faces, this could be a nice way of engaging with her on Mother’s Day as it may encourage chatter about loved ones.

If you would like to plan something personal, please feel free to approach us and we are more than happy to help bring this to life. Whether it’s a relaxed afternoon reminiscing over afternoon tea or an afternoon spent making a scrapbook together.

Mother’s Day Activities at Lidder Care

At Lidder Care we are celebrating Mother’s Day in style; enjoying a special afternoon tea, pamper sessions, lunches and treats with loved ones. The staff at Lidder Care are always happy to help, from arranging an afternoon tea in the garden to spending some quality time playing board games whilst enjoying some yummy cakes.

We are celebrating Mother’s Day on Sunday and Monday this year – this is so our residents can enjoy spending time with their loved ones on Sunday and don’t miss out on the celebrations and events that we have planned. In our homes, the residents and care team celebrate all aspects of being or having a mother. This may involve visits from children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, or could be an occasion to share memories of their own mothers.

Spending Mother’s Day together is only part of the parcel, what can you do with your mum at a nursing home for Mother’s Day?

Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea

Add something special to the day and organise an afternoon tea. The staff at Lidder Care are always happy to help, from helping you to arrange afternoon tea in the garden to organising a trip out to a local cafe or restaurant. Spend the afternoon together with yummy cakes and enjoy your time together.

DIY Nail Bar

Whilst each of our Nottingham nursing homes has a hair salon on-site, our residents would still benefit from a little pampering every now and then. Set up your own DIY Nail Bar and give your mum a fresh manicure for Mother’s Day. This is a great activity for grandchildren to take part in too, helping to give grandma a bright new set of nails.

Day’s Out and About for Mum

Sometimes a day out with family is all mum wants for Mother’s Day. Why not check out some Nottingham sights and National Trust locations, visit a museum or explore the shops after lunch? Our staff are always happy to help arrange any visits or day’s out for our residents and their families, especially when it makes a special day even more memorable.

Games Afternoon with Nursing Home Residents

Create memories by arranging an afternoon of games with your family and friends. Whether you want to set up some outside games in the sun or get out their favourite board games to play, our friendly staff are happy to help.

Bond over Uno, bicker over Monopoly or spend time outside with a friendly game of bean bag toss and have a wonderful afternoon together celebrating the important women in your life.
