Continuing Independence in Residential Care
Residential homes offer support with personal care such as washing, getting dressed, toileting, administering medication, attending appointments and mobility. Living in a residential home takes away day to day chores which older people can struggle with such as cooking, cleaning and washing clothes as this is all done by staff.
Each resident has their own abilities and areas that they need support. Rather than giving everyone the same support and not allowing them the opportunity to do things for themselves, we get to know each person’s abilities and encourage independence where possible so we can support them in preserving their own abilities.
Residential Care Home Activities
Our Activities Co-ordinator plans regular activities with residents which can be adapted to each person’s abilities, so everyone is included. Activities are beneficial to encourage physical and mental exercise, creating a fun and engaging environment.
Bespoke Residential Home Bedrooms
We individually decorate our bedrooms to suit each resident’s personal taste including walls, window coverings, furniture and soft furnishings can be personalised to suit the residents’ personal preferences. Residents are also encouraged to bring furniture and personal items to make their new bedroom feel like a home from home.
Individual Residential Care Plans
At Newgate Lodge we work with residents and their loved ones to tailor a care plan to their specific needs, preferences and personalities and we recognise each resident as an individual. We also regularly review the care plan with the resident’s family to ensure that their growing needs are continually supported.

Laura joined Lidder Care in 2022, bringing over 20 years of experience in caring for older adults. Her impressive career in the care industry has seen her rise from a Care Assistant to Team Leader, then Head of Care and ultimately a Home Manager.
As the Registered Manager at Newgate Lodge Care Home, Laura is dedicated to fostering a happy and safe environment where residents and their families can spend quality time together. Laura’s favourite aspect of her role is engaging with residents and their families.
In her spare time, Laura enjoys spending time with friends and family, loves summer holidays and enjoys and diving into a box set in the winter.
