Preparing for Your First Christmas In Care

 In Blog

Christmas is such a special time of year and at Lidder Care, we are on hand to make it a meaningful and memorable festive period. For those people who will be experiencing their very first Christmas in care, it can be a challenging time adapting to something that differs from previous holiday seasons. We want each and every one of our residents’ Christmas to be a joyous occasion and we have provided some tips to help make the first Christmas in care that little bit easier.

Spend Time with Family & Friends

Where possible, it makes such a difference to spend part of the Christmas season with family and friends, catching up, telling stories and spreading some Christmas cheer. At a time where you can’t necessarily be with loved ones at home, at Lidder Care we welcome those important people to come in and visit. We operate with an open door policy so that friends and family drop by when suits them best. Pre plan when you would like your family and friends to visit so you have a clear idea of who will be coming and when. If distance is an issue, phone and video calls are another wonderful way to interact with loved ones. Whichever way you choose, interacting with those closest to you will make your Christmas that much more significant.

Christmas Themed Care Home Activities

At Lidder Care, we have a dedicated activities team to ensure that there is never a dull moment at our residential care homes and Christmas is no exception to this. We appreciate that everyone has different things that they enjoy so we strive to create activities that each person will have the chance to engage in and be entertained by. With it being a special time of year, we hold a Christmas party and give out presents to all of our residents. In addition to this, there are all the usual Christmas treats going on across the care homes including sparkling decorations, Christmas musical magic, classic Christmas films and games. In addition to this,

A Specially Prepared Christmas Meal

It wouldn’t be Christmas without Turkey and all the trimmings and our 5* catering team pride themselves on making mealtimes special. Residents of our care home will get the chance to sit together and enjoy a wonderfully prepared Christmas meal. Our meals are all made on site by our catering team, using fresh and locally sourced produce. Mealtimes are a fundamental part of a resident’s care and we wouldn’t let Christmas go by without making our festive food exceptional.
